Self Hypnosis

What is Self-Hypnosis?

Self-hypnosis allows you hypnotize yourself without the aid of a trained hypnotist. It is often used as a stress management technique and requires training on behalf of the individual before it can be achieved. Self-hypnosis helps you relax your body, reduce stress hormones and helps rid your mind from unpleasant or negative thoughts. People often use affirmations as part self-hypnosis. Affirmations are simply positive thoughts that you give to yourself to counter the negative or unpleasant thoughts and relieve stress. This does require positive thinking. One should learn some basic positive thinking techniques prior to trying self-hypnosis. Negative thoughts can easily overrun your mind and make it more difficult to use self-hypnosis. Learning self-hypnosis is easy but does take some practice. See the section on Learning Self-Hypnosis for a step-by-step guide on performing self-hypnosis.

How to Achieve Positive Thinking

As mentioned above, positive thinking is a big part of self-hypnosis. It may be difficult for some to think on the positive side as we all tend to focus on the negative side of things (fear of our actions, fear of the future, etc). Try not to think negative, don’t put yourself down, criticize yourself or doubt your abilities. It can be very difficult to change your thought process, but with a little practice, it can be done. Take a look at the Positive Thinking Techniques page to learn how to analyze and change your thought process.
